Japaninmatka / Tripping in Japan

Oltiin kolme viikkoa Japanissa. Mahtava reissu!

I had dreamed about going to Japan for a years, and  finally got a chance to go there, because our animation art exhibition Anxiety/Relief is on display at Hibiya Library and Museum. Japan was awesome! Weird, cute and splendid! But after all I'm glad to be back home again. Here's some random pics from my trip!

Kivoi taloi / Tokyo had interesting architechture.

Kiva kyltti / We climbed to Arashiyama monkey mountain. It's a hill where monkeys live free, and people can watch them inside a hut with caged windows.

Kiva ravintola / Nice vegan restaurant Le Coccole in Osaka. Super friendly, cute staff and good food!

Kiva sisustus / After the opening of our exhibition we went to a restaurant located underneath the Tokyo Station. Cups and plates trembled when the trains passed by.

Kiva patsas / 18 meters high Gundam statue!

Retki Jätkäsaareen / Trip to Dude Island

 Käytiin lauantaimatkalla Jätkäsaaressa, oli kivaa!
/ Yesterday we made a day trip to Jätkäsaari, Helsinki.

Ensin käytiin katsomassa Anu Tuomisen näyttely Forum Boxissa. Tuominen on mun suosikkitaiteilijoita, täällä kuvia hänen tekosistaan: www.anutuominen.fi/.
/ We saw some awesome art by Anu Tuominen at Gallery Forum Box. There's also Huuto gallery nearby, but they were'nt open at the time. I plan to go there next month, I'm interested in seeing Malin Ahlsved's exhibition of the little grey mouse.

Pelasin minipajatsoa. Olen melko huono kaikissa pelaamis-jutuissa, mutta flipperit on vinkeän näköisiä.

/ There's a pinball arcade and Vintage Car Museum at L3 Makasiini.

Makasiinin toisessa päässä oli vanhojen tavaroiden liike. Olisin halunnut ostaa sieltä ihmisen luurangon, kuun näköisen kahvikupin, muovisen anatomianesittelysydämen ja täytetyn poronpoikasen. En ostanut koska kotini on muutenkin melko täynnä ja lompakkoni melko tyhjä. Ostin kaupan yhtedessä olevasta Rantakahvilasta kaksi kahvia, patongin, eri hyvän korvapuustin ja mehun. Maksoi kympin, mun mielestä varsin kohtuulliset hinnat!

/ You can find a shop that sells old furniture, vintage lamps, taxidermy and weird stuff  at Tyynenmerenkatu 6. They also have a really neat little café. I recommend you'll try their cinnamon rolls!

Splits Summer Trip to Italy

Last summer we went to Italy to play two gigs with The Splits. First gig was at Bikini Kill Festival, and the second one was a outdoor gig somewhere in the countryside, on an outdoor venue by the vineyard. Here's some pics from the trip:

My feet and Italian soil

At the moment, The Splits are touring UK but I am here in freezing cold Finland! I'm really sad I couldn't go with my band, but they have a cool replacement drummer (Pave from Death Laser) and I have super good reason for not going - I'll tell you more about that soon. Here's the dates for The Splits tour, so go go go if you happen to live in England!

29.11. The Bay Horse, Manchester, UK, with Love Triangle, Sex Hands and The Hipshakes
30.11. Wharf Chambers, Leeds, UK, with Love Triangle, Broken Arm and City Yelps

En oo oikeen ehtinyt taas kirjotella, kun on ollut kauheasti puuhaa.Käytiin Berliinissä vinkeäsä pikkuruisessa nukkemuseossa, joka on lelukaupan yhteydessä Choriner Straßella. / We went to a strange, small toy museum on Choriner Straße. It is under a toy shop, there is a tombstone the owner opens to the visitors for few euros. Then you descend the stairs to see a small basement room filled with different funny looking East German toys.
We also went to a Currywurst Museum on Schützenstraße. I have never eaten a currywurst, but I guess the Germans love that stuff. You get a small portion of Currywurst with the museum ticket. We didn't get any, because we were the last customers of the day, and they said that all the vegetarian currywursts were already eaten.
Askarreltiin Splitsien kanssa hihamerkkejä. / Then we made some patches with the Splits. They turned out pretty good, I think! Adam from Laser Cut Studio made us the stencils. That helped a lot! He also gave us a big bottle of ginger beer that helped a lot too.
Tänään olin gallerialla valvomassa Suvi Aarnion näyttelyä. Se on hieno näyttely, käykää katsomassa! Kingi Kongi, Vaasankatu 15./ It's been very cold and snowy here in Helsinki. I wish I had a husky with a sleigh to take me to places. That would be way more fun than to wade slowly trough the snow with your own two feet.

Sain mun ystävältä Chrzulta lahjaksi maailman hienoimman kassin! Siinä lukee Danzig I-IV koska ne on ne parhaat levyt. Kaljanjuontihommissakin parhaat luvut, I-IV.

Few years ago I happened to be in the same town where Glenn Danzig lives. I asked the address from my travel sized Ouija Board, and went to see him. He was not home. Spider web grew on the black iron gate. The curtains on the window were all fucked up like a demon had just ripped them. Dirty black sun shined as I walked away.

Istuskelin autossa taas viikonloppuna. (Edellisenä viikonloppuna oltiin Seekretsien kanssa keikalla Jyväskylässä, tänä viikonloppuna Splitsien kanssa Turussa. Kivaa oli.)

Last weekend I was sitting in a car again. It was raining. I was feeling bored/artistic.

Click here to listen to "Lights by the Highway" by 22-Pistepirkko. I think it sounds a bit like the pictures look.

Tekotaide vs. Tylsyys 6-0!

While sitting in a car, driving trough endless road trough darkness I almost got bored. But then I remembered I had my small pocket camera with me! Shaking the camera wildly while taking pictures of boring sights (such as passing vehicles and gas stations) makes them look pretty interesting, I think.

( I was not driving, I was just a passenger so no need to worry about safety-issues here)

Talven tuloa ei voi estää / But you can prepare for it

I found a pair of super awesome vintage boots from a drift store. I don't like winter that much, since it's freezing cold then. But having shoes like this sure makes me glad I don't live in California!
We went for a walk today with my super awesome boyfriend. We walked by a harbour, where the icebreaker ships were resting and waiting for the sea to freeze over. The icebreakers had each their own mail boxes with the ship's name written on them. I guess the boxes are there for fan-mail.

maanantai 3. lokakuuta 2011

Matkasimme viikonloppuna Tampereelle.
Tarkoin valitut tavarat viestittävät toiveista, joita asukkailla on. Altarille asetettu kypärä suojaa asukasta liikenneonnettomuuksilta, kukat tuovat onnea rakkaudessa, kirja opinnoissa ja valokuvalla on mahdollista suojata tiettyä henkilöä hänen kohdatessaan vaikeuksia.

Jee! Tänään me mennään katsomaan David Shrigleyn näyttely Turkuun!

David Shrigley is one of my favourite artists. He has an exhibtion in Turku, which is a town in Finland. The people not living in Turku refer to it as "the ass of Finland".

The trip with The Seekrets to Germany was fun!

When I looked at the photos I had taken from the trip, I was surprised by the amount of walls in them. The memory card was filled with pictures of German walls (though not the most famous one, Berlin Wall). Sure there would have been loads of more interesting things to photograph, but I guess walls are easy targets. They're large and tend to keep still.
The wall behind the stage in the place where we played in Leipzig. It was in a punk rock trailer park with friendly dogs running around, and open fire in the yard when it got dark.
The wall in the room where we slept in Chemnitz. It was covered with posters of the bands that had been playing in Subway to Peter.
The radio wall in the kitchen in Leipzig.
The wall with the framed pants of Joey Ramone in the Ramones Museum in Berlin.

Other neat places where we went in Berlin:
- Bei Roy, where we got really good vegan pizza and played with the Bad Ceasars and Pipistrelli
- Tiki Heart Cafe, with a shop downstairs where I got myself a cute Hawaii sun dress. Which I won't be able to use for months, since it's rainy, cold autumn here in Finland, followed by snowy, cold winter and slighty less snowy, cold spring.
- Wowsville record store and bar.
- Bassy club that had a great DJ playing 60's garage, but with my toe broken I did not feel like dancing.

Lähetään Seekuroitten kans Saksaan soittelemaan! Tänää on vielä treenit. Yks uusi likaisen vanhan muumion elämästä kertova biisi on melkein valmis, olis kiva jos saatais se harjoiteltua!
We'll be playing a few gigs in Germany with our horror-garage band The Seekrets! We're gonna play with The Bad Ceasars & Pipistrelli. Come see us, if you happen to be around!

24. Chemnitz / Subway to Peter

25. Leipzig / Wagenplatz, Klingenstraße

26. Berlin / Bei Roy, Ziegrastraße

Maaseudun menneisyys / It's Summertime, and Living is Easy

Vietin viikonlopun sukulaisten kesähuvilalla. / I spent the weekend at my relatives summer place.

Seinällä oli kipsivaloskopio aiheesta "Seinen tuntematon", joka on 1800-luvulla Seinestä kiskotun hukkuneen tytön kasvoista tehty kuolinnaamio.
Elvytysharjoituksissa käytettävän Anne-nuken kasvot on muovattu Seinen kuolleen mukaan.

There was a copy of "L'Inconnue de la Seine" on the wall. According to an often-repeated story, the body of the young woman was found from the river Seine around the late 1880s. It was thought to be a suicide. The pathologist thought that the
girl was too beautiful to be forgotten, so he had a moulder take a death mask of her serenely smiling face. All the the morbid Parisian artists wanted a copy of the mask on their walls.

There has been a time when you could call a servant by clicking together the cherries on top of the dining table. An electric buzz would ring in the kitchen.
Sängyn yläpuolella on napit, joilla on joskus saattanut hälyttää paikalle kotiapulaisen tai Ida Pesosen. / There has also been a time when you could call a maid or someone named Ida Pesonen.
Oli kiva viikonloppu. Nukuin pitkään ja katselin kun lapset ui. Syötiin lettuja rapumajassa, ulkona satoi vettä. Lapset järjestivät bingon ja esittelivät rannalla kivien koloissa sijaitsevia mielikuvitushotellejaan (mm. hotelli Kuolemankaisla, josta on sisäänpääsy Manalaan).
/ It was a nice weekend. We watched old 8mm films of past summers and christmases. Drank lemonade and ate raspberry cake.

lauantai 18. kesäkuuta 2011

Oltiin The Itty-Bitty Tease Cabaret'n kanssa esiintymässä Las Vegasissa Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekendissä.
I had a fun trip to Las Vegas with The Itty-Bitty Tease Cabaret girls. But the best part of Vegas was maybe the Elvis wedding of Ulrika & Eddi! Elvis, dressed in a black jumpsuit, walked the bride to the altar. After the ceremony was over Elvis talked about death metal and played some Metallica song with his guitar.
After Vegas I retired from my show girl career and headed for a holiday road trip to Texas and Louisiana. I'll write about that later!

Muutama kuva Rooman matkalta:
Hieno kyltti.

We saw some pretty good Italian bands on our trip to Rome. I can't remember the names of all of them but since we bought the Borgata Boredom compilation LP, I can check them later!

Garage blues duo
Capputtini 'i Lignu was great as always. I also liked the girl country duo Corpus Christi (featuring member of Capputtini 'i Lignu and my favourite Italian band The Intellectuals). Duodenum was a super fun live band with one man playing drums and guitar, and the other one jumping around and shouting.

I was happy to hear that The Intellectuals are going to put out a new album soon! I also heard that they also have a bass player now. Bass player is ok, and four members is ok, but I hope they'll stop there. They used to be a duo, and they were great then. Then they became a trio, and were great. But I really hope this does not mean that they'll have a new member on each record and finally end up with loads of people with violins and flutes!
